Our talented and hard-working golf committee met again last week as we complete last minute tasks and get ready for the National Kidney Foundation Cadillac Golf Classic.
We'll tee it up next Monday, June 28, at Oakhurst Golf & Country Club--and there's still room and time for you to join us. The shot gun start is set for 12 noon on the Arthur Hills-designed private course.
We can promise a great day on the links with a terrific group of people supporting the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and the fight against chronic kidney disease.

On a beautiful spring day at Oakhurst Golf & Country Club, we shot the Public Service Announcement for this year's NKFM Golf Classic. Mike Thomas from WXYZ-TV's creative services department coordianted the shoot (and took these photos). Andrezej Milosz was the videographer with assistance from stage hand Mike Gary. The PSA will begin running soon in support of our golf event on Monday, June 28.

Peter Brown: 2010 Honorary Chairperson

Oakhurst's Great Hall was packed for the dinner and awards program following a great day of golf.
The good feelings remain after a successful 2009 event, but the golf committee is now turning its focus to 2010.
We met for the first time on October 22 at WXYZ-TV.
During the meeting we welcomed new committee members Nicole Longhini-McElroy and Terry Sullivan. We look forward to their participation and support in joining a great group of people dedicated our event and the cause!

Suzanne joined Kelly Law Registry (KLR) in July 2002 as Managing Director. Kelly Law Registry is a business unit of Kelly Services, Inc. KLR specializes in placing legal professionals in contract positions, direct placement and project teams.

Prior to joining Suzanne spent two years as a Marketing Representative for Ceridian Employer Services providing payroll and benefit solutions to corporate clients. Seven years were spent with Lexis Publishing in the Law Firm Market encompassing various education and management roles.

Suzanne began her sales consultant career shortly after earning her BA degree from Wayne State University. She embarked on a career in the IT industry, where she spent 8 years providing networking, integration, desktop publishing solutions to various corporate, government and education clients. Suzanne has been trained by the top tier hardware and software suppliers during her tenure in the IT industry. Ten years were spent as a part time adjunct professor at a local community college teaching computer applications.

Suzanne is an active member of Michigan and Ohio ALSP (Association of Litigation Support Professionals) and IPMA (International Paralegal Management Association) chapters. Suzanne represents Kelly Services in my role with the Membership Committee of Automation Alley and as a member of the Troy Chamber Economic Development Committee. I have recently been named the Kelly Economic Recovery Lead for the State of Michigan to track stimulus funds for our business. In her spare time Suzanne volunteer’s at a Detroit Charter School preparing 5th & 6th graders to learn the practice of TM (transcendental meditation). She resides with her eight year old son in Troy, living a full life filled with varying interests in sports, arts, music and travel.

So far I am enjoying working on the NKFM golf committee meeting new people and contributing to a worthwhile cause. Look forward to many rewarding years with this group.

Dennis Haffey: Golf Committee Member of the Day

Dennis M. Haffey is an attorney with Dykema, a large Midwest-based law firm where Dennis specializes in business litigation. Dennis is annually listed in publications like The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and Michigan Super Lawyers. Dennis has been with Dykema for over 30 years, since graduating magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. He has been the Director of Dykema’s Litigation Department, served on the firm’s Executive Board, and works out of the Bloomfield Hills office.

Dennis was a founding member of Oakhurst Golf & Country Club, served on its Board of Governors for the Club’s first three years, and served one year as its President.

Tim Copacia: Golf Committee Member Of The Day

Tim Copacia is a long time Detroit advertising and marketing leader and is serving on our marketing committee. Over the past three decades, Tim has worked for many agencies in town. He is the former President and CEO of Ross Roy Communications, InterOne Marketing Group and President of Wunderman Detroit. He has also held executive level positions at BBDO and Campbell-Ewald. Currently Tim is a partner of Outsell--one of the fastest growing digital marketing services firms in America.

Tim has been married to his wife, Linda for 24 years. Their oldest son Ryan recently graduated from Northwood University and works in New York City at a hot social media company called Yelp. Their middle son Cameron is a junior at Northwood University and their daughter Leia is a junior at Rochester Adams. She spends most of her free time with her horse, Bravo.

Tim lives in Oakland Township and looks forward to improving his golf game this year. He also likes to play drums and is an avid Ohio State Buckeye football fan.

Committee Member of the Day: Paul Kesman

Paul Kesman is co-founder of Bingham Farms-based Identity Marketing & Public Relations. The growth of the company, from its humble beginnings to its standing today as one of Michigan’s largest and most successful public relations firms, is something Paul takes great pride in.

He is married to his wonderful wife Kirsten and has a daughter, Morgan, age 10 and a son, Benjamin, age 8. Both attend Holy Family Regional School where Dave’s lovely wife serves as the art teacher. The best art teacher in the world, in fact, according to Morgan and Ben.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Communications from the University of Michigan. When Paul is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, working on his golf handicap and following all of Detroit’s professional sports teams, as well as the Wolverines, of course.

The first and second place teams at the NKFM Golf Classic at Oakhurst Golf & Country Club earned invitations to compete against teams from across the country on January 15-19, 2009.

This is Caspersen Beach, just south of Venice, Florida, where I am visiting family for a few days.

The first and second place teams at Oakhurst earn an invitation to the Kidney Foundation National Championship at Pebble Beach.
At our 2007 outing, the team of Paul Carollo, Tom Richards, Scott Jones, and Bruce Baringer, earned an invitation to play the famous courses of the Monterey Peninsula: Pebble Beach Golf Links, the Links at Spanish Bay and Del Monte, as well as the renowned Poppy Hills Golf Course.
The Oakhurst team turned in a tremendous performance, placing third among all competitors at the National Championship!
Next year it could be YOU making the trip of a lifetime!

French Toast Morning

The 2009 National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic at Oakhurst Golf and Country Club in Clarkston, Michigan will be held Monday, June 8, 2009.
The date was settled upon during a morning gathering of the Committee over coffee and French Toast at the Maple Leaf Cafe in Downtown Birmingham.
The early June date has become the traditional spot on the calendar for our event, which is now in its third year at Oakhurst.
We have been blessed with excellent weather the past two years and we'll keep our fingers crossed for the same in 2009!
